Empowering Rural Communities in Burkina Faso
Through clean water, women’s livelihoods, education, agriculture, and hope.

In rural Burkina Faso, extreme poverty often limits the opportunities available to women and their families. Many women have the desire and determination to improve their lives, but they lack the resources needed to begin. Through its goat empowerment program, OUAGANET provides women with a simple but powerful starting point: one healthy goat.

What begins with one goat can become a path toward independence. Over the years, many women supported by OUAGANET have grown from owning just one goat to raising more than ten goats within a few years. This growth is more than an increase in livestock; it is a source of dignity, hope, and economic opportunity. As the goats reproduce, women gain assets they can manage, sell, or use to support their families during difficult times.

The impact goes beyond goat farming. With the income generated from selling goats or their offspring, many women are able to start small activities such as selling millet, corn, or other basic goods in their communities. These small businesses help them earn regular income, feed their children, contribute to school expenses, and become more financially stable.

OUAGANET’s goat program is built on the belief that lasting change can begin with a small opportunity. A single goat can become a small herd. A small herd can become a source of income. And that income can help a woman move from dependency toward self-reliance.

By supporting this program, donors are not only giving a goat; they are helping women build assets, create small businesses, and break the cycle of extreme poverty in rural Burkina Faso.nt, we can create a more equitable and prosperous society for all.
